Ice Storm Ruptures Water Line

It doesn’t happen often in Texas, but multiple days of below freezing temperatures can cause water pipes to freeze and rupture, which usually isn’t seen until the frozen water has melted and escapes through the new hole in the pipe, resulting in interior water damage.

That’s what happened to this McKinney, TX home.  A water line in the attic froze and ruptured, and when the water melted it leaked into the blown insulation and drywall.  As the insulation and drywall became water soaked and heavier, the weight caused it collapsed into the kitchen, living room and hallway.  The homeowner called SERVPRO of McKinney to help with the water extraction and removal of the insulation and drywall. We used a insulation vacuum to properly remove all of the wet insulation form the floor and attic. We then placed air movers and dehumidifiers to completely dry out the affected area.
